about visualONGAKU
visualONGAKU was a site I originally started sometime back around 2004-ish and ran until about 2008. It was a collection of information, romanised lyrics, and pictures of the indie visual kei bands I loved at the time. There wasn't much when it came to English-translated fansites back then, especially not any featuring multiple indie bands, so it was like my little dedicated corner of love for Visual Kei on the internet back then.
For a combination of reasons, I started losing interest in Visual Kei around 2010 sometime. I didn't get back into it until 2015 or 2016, sadly. But I still really love all my favourite old, long disbanded Visual Kei bands, so I thought I'd semi-revive my site and try to gather and preserve as much information as I could.
If you have scans or old saved information on indie visual kei bands from the 2000s, even if it's still in Japanese, you can contact me at: strange.sugar.baby at gmail dot com!
As for me, I'm a 30+ year old visual kei veteran (from the US) who's been a fan since sometime in 2000. It's hard to remember what got me into Visual Kei originally. I can just barely remember that my early bands were Dir en grey, Malic Mizer, Pierrot, Janne da Arc, Luna Sea, Penicillin, and so on. My main early loves were Dir en grey, Penicillin, and Pierrot. Over the years I've had many different favourite bands in the scene, of course. From Dir en grey to Aikaryu, to Phantasmagoria, to Fatima, to UnsraW, to Dadaroma, and so on... I should be used to kaisan announcements by now, but they still always break my heart when it's from a band I was really enjoying.
